22.10 Periods of registration – seven (7) years, 25 years or an indefinite period

The maximum period (length) of a registration is seven (7) years for collateral that is consumer property or serial numbered property1.

For consumer property or serial numbered property (aircraft, watercraft, motor vehicles and certain intellectual property), secured parties should put in place systems to monitor when the seven (7) year period of registration expires, and extend the registration if required.

For all other collateral, the maximum registration period is an indefinite period. The period of 25 years is also available2.
